Dubai: The Dubai RTA has successfully delivered a group of important road improvement projects designed to boost connectivity between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road through Meydan Street. These initiatives were key components of RTA’s ongoing larger plan to strengthen the road connectivity across the city.
Announcing the completion of this initiative under the Dubai RTA road improvement project, the RTA said Exit No. D69, the link from SZR Road to Al Meydan Street, is broadened, transforming it from a single-lane to a two-lane road. This upgrade will play a key role in reducing the travel time on one of the busiest routes in the city.
The upgrade of Exit No. D69 is one of the several efforts implemented by the RTA for maintaining smooth traffic flow across the city, as the exit’s capacity is now boosted from 1,500 to 3,000 vehicles per hour, leading to a 40% reduction in travel time during peak hours and a 50% decrease in traffic queue lengths.
Expanded Bridge Capacity for Smoother Traffic Flow
Besides the Sheikh Zayed Road enhancements, the bridge over First Al Khail Road is also widened to four lanes in each direction. This change will play a vital role in easier movement of vehicles between Al Khail Road, Al Meydan Street, SZR Road, and Al Hadiqa Street, as it now provides more space for cars, resulting in reduced transit times.
This upgrade has boosted the bridge’s capacity by over 33%, which means now 6,000 vehicles can move over this bridge per hour, which was 4,500 before. Moreover, this lane enhancement has also cut down crossing time from seven minutes to four minutes during peak hours, which is an improvement of nearly 40%.
Connecting Ramps Widened to Ease Rush Hour Congestion
To support smoother traffic movement, the Dubai transport authority upgrades the ramps linking the surface road to the bridge over First Al Khail Road, doubling them from one to two lanes. This upgrade will help vehicles move toward Al Khail Road and Al Meydan Street with more ease, especially during the rush hours during midday and evening.
The broadening of connecting ramps will reduce waiting times by 50%, making travel for daily commuters more efficient. Announcing the connecting ramps enhancement, the Dubai RTA said this upgrade is implemented with the strategic vision, as it will play a vital role in easing travel between SZR Road and Al Khail Road in both directions.
Building Better Roads: A Step in Dubai’s Grand Mobility Plan
The Dubai RTA road improvement initiatives are part of the authority’s larger plan to implement more than 75 traffic improvement projects across the emirate this year. The recent upgrades to build better roads are primarily aimed at making daily travel smoother and faster for residents, resulting in improved quality of life. Moreover, these initiatives support Dubai’s vision to secure its position as the global leader in smart, seamless, and eco-friendly mobility. For those tracking innovation and transformation in public infrastructure, the RTA’s roadmap could easily inspire the best startup story in the field of urban mobility.
