e& UAE, in partnership with NYU Abu Dhabi, has successfully carried out the first 6G THz trial in the Middle East, reaching an impressive speed of 145 Gbps. This marks a major step forward in the Emirates’ goal to become a regional leader in advanced and eco-friendly digital connectivity.
The successful trial shows the huge potential of future 6G networks. It proves that 6G can offer extremely fast and stable connections while supporting a new generation of technologies. These high-speed networks can enable innovative uses such as holographic telepresence, extended reality (XR) experiences, super-high-speed data transfer (terabit-class backhaul), and digital twins that can help design and manage smart cities and industries.
Speaking to Masood M. Sharif Mahmood, CEO of e& UAE, said that in simple terms, 6G will bring almost instant responses, very reliable connections, massive data capacity, and smart networks that can sense, process data locally, and offer strong protection against cyber threats.
6G Is More Than Speed: It’s About Smarter, Reliable Connectivity
Explaining more about 6G, e& UAE’s CEO said that if 5.5G is the stage where physical AI becomes ready for real use, then 6G is where the network itself becomes smarter, more aware, and more independent by design. He added that for the Emirates, which is a country focused on digital strength and reliability, this achievement means better national control and almost zero downtime.
However, for e& UAE CEO 6G is not just about faster speeds. This advanced network is about building a system that keeps essential services running smoothly under any situation. He added that 6G is smart at the edge, secure at the core, and strong end to end.
Interestingly, many experts have called this breakthrough one of the best startup story in the tech landscape of the Middle East where innovation, research, and real-world application come together to shape the future of connectivity.
The CEO also mentioned that 6G will include satellites and high-altitude platforms as part of the main network. This will help in creating a “network of networks” that will result in strong connections across deserts, oceans, and airspace. This will also provide backup whenever ground-based systems are overloaded or disrupted.
What Makes 6G Different?
According to the CEO of e& UAE, 6G has introduced several key changes that make networks smarter, stronger:
- Built-in Sensing: Radios will also work like radar, enabling centimetre-level positioning and environmental awareness. This is very helpful when robots and autonomous vehicles share public spaces.
- Stronger Security: Another key change is that 6G will use post-quantum security methods. This will make national and critical infrastructure communications safer and more secure against future cyber threats.
- Integrated Computing: Cloud and edge computing will merge into one system. This will allow data to be processed wherever it’s most efficient. This ensures faster and predictable performance across all devices and applications.
All these features of the 6G technology will combine to create a network that’s more reliable, responsive, and ready for the future. Marwan Bin Shakar, Acting Chief Technology and Information Officer at e& UAE, added that this achievement shows the potential of 6G to redefine how people, businesses, and cities stay connected.
Experts involved in the UAE 6G trial project said that this advanced technology will not only make the network faster but also more reliable and energy-efficient. This will significantly support everything from AI applications to remote surgeries. The Emirates aims to continue its testing and expand this technology to create a fully connected society in the coming years.
