Vazgen Gevorkyan: Multi-Sector Financial Specialist

Vazgen Simonovich Gevorkyan leads a new generation of financial specialists who adapt traditional banking to modern market demands. He blends advanced academic training with hands-on experience to design solutions for complex financial challenges. His expertise spans banking digitization, infrastructure project financing and real-estate investment management. Gevorkyan’s progression from academic research to practical application shows how economic theory can drive measurable transformation across diverse financial markets.

Strategic Foundation and Early Development

In 1999, Gevorkyan joined Armenia’s first commercial bank, Prometey Bank, and saw potential to transform its services. His economics degree and MBA with a banking focus supplied the theory behind his practical work.

Under his guidance, the bank achieved key milestones, including SWIFT integration that linked it to global networks. This step reflected his vision for regional banks to compete internationally. The SWIFT rollout demonstrated his mastery of correspondent banking and cross-border payments.

In 2005, the bank joined the ArCa payment system and became a shareholder in Armenian Card CJSC. MasterCard Europe affiliation followed in 2006, allowing issuance of cards from Maestro to premium business solutions. These partnerships built a broad payment infrastructure that increased customer convenience.

The institution issued its first bond in 2008, showing an understanding of funding diversification and investor relations beyond traditional deposits. The successful private placement confirmed its credibility under Gevorkyan’s leadership.

Gevorkyan Vazgen: Digital Transformation and Market Leadership

Global Finance magazine named the bank Armenia’s top sub-custodian in 2012 and 2013. During the same period, UNISTREAM integration improved cross-border remittances, confirming the need for multiple service channels in emerging markets.

Market research in 2014–2015 revealed consumer dissatisfaction with traditional banking. Gevorkyan led a full rebrand from Prometey to Evocabank, pairing it with a digital overhaul. The new identity, rooted in “evolution” and “evocation,” placed mobile apps at the center of customer interaction while retaining branches for complex transactions.

Evocabank 2017 highlights

  • Total capital exceeded $62 million, up more than 20 percent year over year.
  • Regulatory capital reached $68 million, a jump of more than 40 percent.
  • The capital-adequacy ratio rose to 35 percent, nearly triple the regulatory minimum.

These results underscored robust risk management and capital planning.

EvocaTouch, launched under Gevorkyan’s direction, served any cardholder regardless of home bank. Multi-device features let accounting teams, financial directors and executives collaborate seamlessly.

Awards followed. Global Finance, Global Banking and Finance Review and SME Banking Club honored Evocabank for digital excellence, while BACEE recognized its international cooperation in 2024.

Gevorkyan Vazgen Simonovich sold his stake in 2020 to pursue global projects, leaving a modern institution that continues to thrive under the team he built.

Vazgen Gevorkyan: Diversified Financial Expertise

Gevorkyan’s skills reach beyond banking. Early work with the ZNGS-Prometey pipeline company gave him experience in large-scale infrastructure financing.

In 2007, he bought land in Russia’s Moscow Region to create LES Art Resort. Construction ran from 2008 to 2013, with a second phase completed in 2018. The resort was named Russia’s best countryside hotel in 2023.

He now advises projects through his wife’s Green Rock Management Group, guiding building restoration, sports-complex construction and urban-park development in Armenia. His approach blends private capital with social impact.

Gevorkyan also advises a charitable foundation focused on transformational projects in Armenia and mentors young entrepreneurs, sharing insights on marketing, project development and team building.
